Emma Luna and Guest Sacha Laurin
Ceramic and Textile
Reception: Friday, June 10, 2016 , 7:00 to 9:00 P.M
The Artery presents Textile, showcasing Emma Luna's ceramic textile sculpture as well as Sacha Laurin's Kombucha Couture clothing.
Internationally known artist and sculptor Emma Luna presents her Hanging Terry Cloth Sculpture. She replicates, in clay, the fabric so accurately that you want to reach out and unfurl the cloth. Sacramento's Crocker Art Museum now includes Luna's Terry Cloth Stack in their permanent collection.
Sacha Laurin's unique company, Kombucha Couture of Davis, produces unusual cloth formed from sheets of kombucha cellulose. These sheets, grown in tubs of fermented tea, imitate canvas, leather or silk after they dry. Laurin won first prize in 2013 at the Sacramento Film and Music Festival Challenge for a dress she created from this bacterial cellulose. Then she became Featured Designer at the 2014 Sacramento Fashion Week. Going international, Kombucha Couture showcased at the Pierre Cardin showroom during Paris Fashion Week, 2015.
