Paintings and Textiles
Reception: Friday, January 13, 2017, 7:00pm - 9:00 pm
The Artery opens the new year with a delightful show featuring three members that joined us in 2016: Ardith Gray, Adele Shaw, and Thelma Weatherford. Each has an unique talent that will brighten our gallery all month. The show extends from January 6-30 with a reception on Friday, January 13, 7-9 pm.
Ardith Gray, also known for theater design, creates stunning textiles using silk and other fibers. Her dramatic garments include hand painted shawls, jackets and scarves. Ardith's ethereal fashions are irresistible.
Adele Shaw's encaustic landscape paintings are inspired by light on water. When observing water, she sees the elements of geometry, volume, force, flow, pattern, and color. Adele also creates hand-bound books with covers of either marbleized paper or encaustic paintings on paper.
Thelma Weatherford paints with oil and cold wax – beeswax made into a soft paste. Thelma's impressionistic paintings have a layering effect, showing a history of marks and color. She describes her abstracts as mindscapes that echo nature's small designs found in leaves, flowers and even the patina of old wood.
