August 31 - October 1, 2018
Reception: Friday, September 14, 2018, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Marie Brown is a most popular plein air painter. She states, “I love the sport of plein air painting — paring down my equipment, dressing for the weather, finding a good location and getting set up. I work quickly to capture the essence of a place and to create a foundation for the rest of the painting.
Being in the moment with nature and painting is the greatest of pleasures. Wherever I go I take my paints.” For her show, Marie painted multiple still lifes, using the same subject but with different placements. She will also display new plein air paintings from various California locations.
Day at the beach
Marie's paintings show a mix of styles, subjects and media that includes oils, watercolor and gouache. She states, "I paint what compels me, either a beautiful arrangement of leaves and lemons or a group of people enjoying a day at the beach. It all comes down to showing up and picking up the brush." Although most of her exhibit will be paintings, she is introducing some drawings of musicians as they perform. Her desire to pick up her ukulele as often as her brush has inspired these drawings.
Marie says that the more she paints the more she appreciates the beauty and the magnificent colors of our valley and farmlands. You will be delighted with her still lifes and all her adventures in the great outdoors as shown through her art.
