Reception: Friday, February 14, 7 pm to 9 pm
Artists’ Talk: Wednesday, February 19, 5 pm

Jock and Adele take one dramatic aspect of California, the North Coast, and illustrate how two different artistic mediums capture the energy and spirit of the land. They looked at nature's patterns, which reflected repetition and time, and imbued their work with the overwhelming power of this area's beauty. Both artists are inspired by light, recognizing how both photography and paint, in unique ways, encapsulate the light that infuses each scene.

Adele Shaw says that the encaustic process is more technical than most painting mediums. She says working with wax is as close to alchemy as she's ever found. Encaustic is an ancient medium that has Greek roots, translated “to burn in.” Encaustic is essentially painting with wax, pigment and fire.

Jock Hamilton, photographer, states, "The play of light, angle, intensity, color, all work together to define an image and woven into this show is the force of the ocean and the wind, the passage of time, and how infinitely small we are against the universe that surrounds us.”
