Thelma Weatherford & Ian Nelson
Pieces of Paradise
Reception: Friday, February 9, 2018, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Pieces of Paradise is a collection of fine art and photography by Mother and Son artists Thelma Weatherford and Ian Nelson. This duo use their specific talents to bring their unique perspective of paradise to a show that is filled with bold color, interesting texture, and exciting subject matter.
The Palms Thelma is an abstract artist who works in both cold wax & oil and encaustics. Her work and creative energy is inspired by her observations of the many colors and textures found in nature and the world. She plays with color, line, texture, and form to bring elements from her environment into abstractions that she fondly refers to as Mindscapes. Thelma works with oil & cold wax or encaustics to build up layers of paint that lends itself to great mark making and gives added depth and dimension to her art. Thelma is a long time Davis resident and has shown her art throughout Northern California.
Ian is a professional photographer whose main focus in this show is underwater photography. Ian is a California native who moved to Maui, Hawaii in 2007 to pursue his passion for ocean sports. When he is not talking about himself in the third person, Ian works on a sailboat providing private charters and as a professional photographer doing wedding, portrait and underwater photography. Ian became interested in photography at a young age and took a photography class in high school, but it wasn’t until years later that he would pick up the camera and start shooting again. Ian’s love of travel and the ocean have provided him with a diverse subject matter for his fine art photography
