Margaret Black-Smith

“Born in California and raised in Venezuela, Meg became enamored with jewelry early in life and in 1975 apprenticed for two years with Elfstone Jewelry in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In 1978, she and her husband, Randy, moved to Davis, California where she started up her own jewelry business and taught jewelry making classes at the Silo Craft Center at UC Davis for 7 years. She joined the Artery in 1979. For over 45 years, Meg has been designing and handcrafting beautiful, limited edition, wearable jewelry. Meg works in sterling silver and karat gold as well as gold-filled. She employs many techniques including hand fabrication, forging, lost wax casting to name a few. The striking and often unusual gemstones that Meg uses in her jewelry come from all over the world. Many come from Brazil, imported by her husband, Randy. Meg has shown her work in over 600 shows and won several awards.”
