Cindy Nelson
I am a fabric artist who specializes in fabric collage and pet portraits.
My Environmental Design degree from UC Davis has taught me to see with creative eyes. I spent years as a professional interior designer working commercially for an architecture firm and then later for myself as a residential interior designer.
I have been sewing for over 45 years and quilting for 20 years. I co-chair a local chapter of Quilts for Kids, Inc. and have since 2008. I have made hundreds of quilts for children with life threatening diseases in need of a comfort quilt. It is from this experience that I fell in love with the art of quilting. However, the process of making an entire quilt can be quite lengthy and arduous. For me, making pillows is a great way to keep in touch with my sewing machine without having a long affair.
Animals are my muse as in reflected in my animal portraits and other quilted bird and animal pillows. I have owned many animals over my lifetime, all of them rescues. At one point, I owned 6 cats and 6 chickens at the same time. Currently, my house (and heart) is full, with one aging cat (in her 9th life, for sure) and two dogs who mean well, but don't always behave well. I believe every rescue animal comes with a unique story to tell, and I have been blessed many times over to spoil each one that has come my way.
You will find my work on IG @knkdesignz.
I am blessed to have a job, where I can combine my sewing & quilting skills with my love for animals...which makes what I do, truly the best job in the world.
