Tim Carpenter
I am a longtime Davis resident, 52 years. I was first introduced to wood turning by Norm Hinman in 2000. After a long hiatus, I restarted turning in 2019, pre pandemic. More recently, I have taken up power carving. I use locally-sourced wood from fallen trees, otherwise destined for a land fill or fireplace. I enjoy the secrets a log may hold once you start cutting into it. I work with a wide variety of wood, including ash, birch, elm, hackberry, maple, mulberry, oak, redwood, sycamore, walnut, and willow. My designs are typically created on-the-fly, once I discover the hidden character of a piece of wood. All bowls, plates and platters are finished with food safe oils. All vases are sealed with epoxy and are water tight. Excess shavings and saw dust are used as mulch in the garden.
